Costa Rica is renowned for producing some of the world’s finest coffee, and Tarrazu — known as the Area of the Saints — is at the heart of it all. Grown in rich volcanic soil at high altitudes, this Strictly Hard Bean coffee benefits from the perfect combination of elevation, climate, and care.
Our Costa Rica Tarrazu San Rafael is a washed coffee with a smooth, creamy body and flavour notes of ripe plums and chocolate. Expect a clean cup with balanced sweetness, a subtle fruity finish, and just the right depth to make it a standout.
Whether you enjoy your coffee black or with milk, this one delivers a satisfying, refined brew — perfect for a calm morning ritual or an afternoon pick-me-up.
Tim’s Notes: Using a French Press and drinking it black: This one’s a real treat — smooth and well-balanced with a rich, creamy body. I get plum and chocolate notes coming through clearly, and while it’s a gentler cup than the Indonesian, it still has enough character to wake you up. There’s a subtle sweetness and a clean finish, which makes it a lovely mid-morning coffee. It’s got a bit of sophistication to it — feels like the kind of coffee you’d sip while pretending to read something intellectual!
With milk:
Adding milk softens it even more, giving a creamy, almost dessert-like quality. The chocolate notes become more pronounced and the whole thing is just incredibly smooth — almost too easy to drink. It makes a brilliant flat white or cappuccino.
Overall, this one feels more “refined” than punchy — a perfect all-day coffee. You could start the day with it and still be reaching for it by mid-afternoon.
